The Economics Division at The University of Stirling Management School is committed to the pursuit of excellence in both research and teaching.  Our Division is a lively community with friendly and approachable academic staff.  We consistently perform well in national rankings and league tables. For example:

  • We are ranked 1st in Scotland for Teaching Quality
  • We are 14th in the UK on the Guardian League Table
  • We scored 91 for course satisfaction (2016 Guardian League Table)
  • The University was also placed in top 5 in the UK for being a “best-value” University (Telegraph, 2012).
  • Our School is ranked among the top 25 institutions in the UK for Business and Management (The Higher Education Research Excellence Framework, 2014).

The Economics Division contributed significantly to the School’s exceptional performance in 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). Over 90% of our research submitted to REF 2014 was judged to be “world-leading” or “internationally excellent” in terms of their impacts, significantly higher than the 80% UK average in the Unit of Assessment.

Our staff have undertaken prominent work in a number of key areas:

  • Money, Banking and Finance
  • Public Health Economics
  • Behavioural Economics
  • Work, Wellbeing, and Ageing

We are heavily involved in policy-relevant work, have strong links with the business community and have a strong culture of collaboration.

We are active participants in Scottish Institute for Research in Economics (SIRE) including running one of the three major research pathways (Work and Well-Being).

Study in Economics

The Economics Division provides educational courses for undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Undergraduate Course:  At the undergraduate level, we offer an honours course in Economics and Combined Honours courses with a range of other subjects both within the Management School and in other Schools. The flexible structure of our courses helps to develop useful skills, which prepare our students for their future careers. See course details here.

Taught  Postgraduate Course:  We offer taught postgraduate courses in Banking and FinanceBehavioural Science and Economics for Business & Policy.

Research Postgraduate Course:  We offer research degrees at Ph.D. level in Economics.  We are also part of Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics which is a collaborative venture between eight top Scottish universities.
