We practise ashtanga(link is external), a dynamic and physical ‘flow’ type of yoga. It is an excellent means of building core strength – as well as being a highly welcome form of relaxation!

The Linacre yoga society is well established and for the past four years has been led by Manu Rossi(link is external). The class is made up of both regular long-term attendees and casual practitioners and has a friendly, informal atmosphere. We have two levels of classes on Mondays (at 5pm and 6pm), and an assisted self=practice class for all levels on Wednesdays. If you attend a full practice but don’t feel up to the whole series then just do as much as you feel like.

Typically we have betwen 10 and 25 people per class, consisting of Linacre students, other students and non-University yogis.

  • Monday 6pm: Led class
  • Wednesday 6pm: Assisted class (Mysore-style), for improving your practice with specific help from Manu – open to anyone

Tanner Room, Linacre College


Linacre Common Room subsidises the attendance of Linacre members. Please pay by putting the cash in the money box by the door. We rely on the honesty of all attendees to pay what they owe. The classes are heavily discounted and we can only continue if our income is consistent.

Linacre members: £3 per class

Non-Linacre: £5 per session


Passes are available to buy in weeks 0 and 2 and should be bought in cash before or after class. If you decide to buy a pass later on, you do not get a refund on classes you have already paid for.

Passes expire at the end of the dates listed above and are not transferable to other days. If you buy a Monday pass you can go to either the 5pm or 6pm class. There are only eight 5pm classes each term.


We provide mats and wipes for you to clean the mats at the end of the session. Please replace the mats, rolled up neatly in the bag at the end of the class. I’m hoping to buy some new mats to replace the worn ones at some point in the first half of term.

Beginners class

The class at 5 on Mondays is a perfect introduction to ashtanga! We are running it for eight weeks only because we hope that you will be ready to join the main class at the end of that time.

What if there’s no room for me?

Good question! This happens rarely, but sometimes at the start of term. Priority will be given to those with passes and then on a first-come-first-serve basis. In the unlikely circumstance of us routinely having too many, we will consider offering more classes.

Can I help run the society?

Yes, please! We are looking for help in the organisation of the society for after Christmas. This is for Linacre members only. You may want to offer different styles of yoga, organise a retreat or meditation classes, or do some acroyoga. Any help would be appreciated; please email the contact address at the bottom of this page.
