The University of Birmingham Gilbert and Sullivan society was founded four years ago and has grown successfully since then. In this time the society has performed many Gilbert and Sullivan classics including: The Mikado, Yeoman of the Guard and HMS Pinafore. The society has also performed a number of non-Gilbert and Sullivan operettas including: Orpheus in the Underworld and a student written operetta in the style of Gilbert & Sullivan, The New Savoyards. The society performs three shows per year, whilst participating in other events such as local concerts. In February 2013 the society performed at Birmingham Cathedral as part of a Gilbert and Sullivan extravaganza concert.

The society prides itself on inclusiveness and as well student members, from undergraduate to doctoral level, have a number of external non-student members. The chorus and orchestra of the society are non-auditioned to ensure that anyone who wants to take part in a Gilbert and Sullivan performance at the University of Birmingham is able to.

The society is proud to present The Gondoliers at this year’s festival.
