Royal Veterinary College Registration
Only veterinary surgeons registered with us can practise veterinary medicine in the UK. We also register veterinary nurses and, more recently, veterinary practice premises (on behalf of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate).
Find out about maintaining your registration details online, the ‘My Account’ area and all other registration related activities such as voluntary removal and restoration, replacement of certificates and letters of good standing.
Applications – Veterinary surgeons
Whether you’ve qualified as a veterinary surgeon in the UK or overseas, this section provides information on how to register. Please use the map below to select the country where you received your veterinary degree, and then read the information displayed about what you need to do.
In order to register please contact the RCVS as soon as possible, or no less than 8 weeks beforestarting work in the UK, to allow enough time to complete the registration process.
Alternatively, if you think you qualify for restricted (temporary) registration or you’re a visiting vet from Europe, please view restricted (temporary) registration or visiting EU veterinary surgeons.
The entitlement to be registered as a member of the RCVS is determined by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
Only those registered with us may practise veterinary surgery in the UK. Applicants must have the requisite knowledge and skill to do so, and this must meet or exceed the minimum EU training requirements.
