Welcome to the single honours Drama course.  If you wish to undertake any reading for your programme through the summer the following would be useful to you:

Benedetti, J. (1998) Stanislavski and the Actor. London: Methuen.

Boal, A. (1979) Theatre of the Oppressed. London: Pluto.

Brook, P. (2008) The Empty Space London: Penguin Classics

Carlson, M. (1993) Theories of the Theatre: A Historical and Critical Survey from the Greeks to the Present Cornell University Press – Chapter 1

Merlin, B. (2007) The Complete Stanislavski Toolkit. Nick Hern Books, London.

If you wish to access the Newman library before you start your course you can find information about it here.

Are there any additional costs for my course?

Students undertake theatre trips which the Drama department subsidises but students are expected to make a contribution.

All students undertake a compulsory work placement module in their second year, with an optional work related learning module in Year 3, and will be expected to cover the costs of any travel to and from this placement but students can arrange their own placement at a suitable location.  Where a Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for the placement students will need to obtain this through Newman University at their own cost.  Currently the charge for this is £55.  Further details of the work placement will be discussed in your Preparation for Placement module in your first year.
