Loughborough University Union
Loughborough Students’ Union is the students’ union serving members from Loughborough University and Loughborough College.
The Union is unique amongst British universities, in that its premises are owned by the students themselves. The union building sits in the North-Eastern corner of the campus, and consists of two floors. The Union is managed on a day-to-day basis by the Executive, with scrutiny from the Union Affairs Committee, Student Forum and its Board of Trustees.
Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) is an organisation that is run to ensure that students have the best experience possible whilst studying as a Loughborough University student. We put our students at the heart of everything we do, whether it’s giving you the time of your life, helping you to be more than your course, or being always on your side, we want to help you make the most out of your time as a Loughborough student.

Always on your side
We provide practical support and representation for individuals, groups and Loughborough students as a whole, as well as giving them the advice they need to cope well with student life. Through this, LSU seeks to help the University to improve the academic and general student experience so it really is the best.
More than your course
We provide outstanding opportunities beyond students’ core academic experience, so they can develop as people and have that vital edge in their future careers. Make “getting involved” in the union more rewarding and challenging so students develop personally and boost their careers. Students can get involved with the various sections of the students’ union, including community projects, fundraising, campaigns and more. LSU works to ensure that all students have the best student experience as possible during their time here, whilst also becoming a part of the Loughborough or Loughborough in London community. You can find out more about getting involved with LSU student activities and more in our ‘Get Involved’ section.
Time of your life
We help students create new experiences, find friends for life, have unforgettable nights out and we build a campus community that is a great place to live, work and study. the aim is to always be building Loughborough’s reputation as the definitive student experience.
The LSU Executive are the leading representative body of the students’ union. They are more frequently known as ‘The Exec’ and are composed of eleven sabbatical officers, which will increase to twelve officers in the year 2016-17. ‘Exec Elections’ occur each year in February and March, whereby a new executive is voted in by the students. Candidates release manifestos, compete in ‘Bubble Debates’ against each other and promote themselves across campus and on social media in hope of being elected.
The Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for governing the affairs of the Union, but has a duty to consult and take full account of matters referred from the Student Forum as a student representative body whenever appropriate. It makes key decisions on the Union’s financial strategy, assets and delegations, as well as many other important aspects which affect students. It also monitors and directs the objectives and performance of staff members and ensures legal and regulatory compliance within the Union.
The Union Affairs Committee works together as a regulating and procedural body for the union’s activities. They are responsible for ensuring that any activities such as elections or appeals are completed in accordance with the Constitution, whilst also keeping the Constitution under review to make sure that it is operating effectively.
There are also a wide range of student-run committees. Loughborough Students’ Union has established these in all of Loughborough University’s academic departments. The role of these committees is to aid academic-student liaison, enhance academic feedback, increase course involvement and to enhance the Loughborough experience within the departments.
