Loughborough University Singapore
Loughborough Students Union Malaysian and Singaporean Society
Welcome to the Loughborough University web pages for students from Singapore.
We now have a thriving Alumni Association in Singapore and a huge number of links between our academics in the UK and universities and businesses in Singapore.
Loughborough has strong relationships with the Junior Colleges and polytechnics in Singapore – this is demonstrated, for example, by the numbers of Polymer Technology students coming here from Singapore Polytechnic. We also hold a graduation ceremony every two years for our Singapore students in Singapore.
Our active Singaporean Alumni Chapter meet regularly. To find out more about the group please click here. You can also visit their Facebook page by clicking here.
We have partnerships with PSB Academy (Business Studies) and with Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Graphic Communication), which offer Loughborough University degrees for Singapore-based students. This means that in addition to the 30+ Singapore students on our UK campus, there are a further 100 students taking Loughborough degrees in your home country.
The most popular programmes with Singaporean students studying with us at Loughborough include MSc Polymer Science and Technology, BSc Accounting and Financial Management and BSc International Business.
We have over 100 clubs and societies for you to join in your spare time ranging from sports to religious societies. The LSU Malaysian and Singapoean Society is very popular with our students.
Charlotte Davison, Country Manager for Singapore within the International Office usually visits Singapore 3 times per year.
- Undergraduate Courses
Applicants with Singapore A Levels are welcome to apply for first year entry to undergraduate programmes. Entry requirements normally range from BBC to AAA from three H2 Level subjects and offers are typically one grade lower than the UK A Level requirement as stated in the undergraduate prospectus due to the comparative difficulty. Where programmes have specific subject requirements, an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade would normally be required in line with UK A Level requirements.
Applicants with a Diploma from one of Singapore’s five Polytechnics would be considered for first year entry with requirements ranging from 2.50 to 3.10. Second year entry may be offered where the content of the Diploma covers the majority of Loughborough’s first year course syllabus and where a very high GPA has been achieved.
For UK A Level, International Baccalaureate and BTEC requirements please see the undergraduate prospectus.
The University requires all applicants to meet a minimum level of English. Singapore O Level English passed at ‘C’ or higher meets the minimum entry requirements. Please see the Approved Qualifications table on the English Language page for further details.
- Taught Postgraduate Courses and Research Degrees
Applications from students who have graduated with a good degree in an appropriate subject from any recognised university of appropriate standing will be considered. Normally a good second class honours degree from a university in Hong Kong, the UK or Australia would be expected. Applicants with other professional qualifications or an Advanced Diploma and appropriate work experience may also be considered. Potential applicants should see the Postgraduate webpage for further details of appropriate subject requirements and any acceptable alternative entry requirements.
A good Bachelor degree or a Masters degree in a relevant subject from a recognised university of appropriate standing from any other country will normally be required.
Applicants for a postgraduate Research degree will not only be expected to meet the entry requirements for postgraduate study but are also expected to provide a research proposal as part of their application.
Candidates must also achieve the University’s English language requirements. In brief international students are expected to achieve IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each band.
Pre-sessional English Language tuition is available for those applicants whose scores in English Language fall slightly below that normally expected for entry. See our English Language Support Service for more information.
We are here to help. We welcome enquiries and feedback from students and their families interested in applying to Loughborough, our current applicants, partners and our overseas representatives.
The International Office is located in the Hazlerigg building next to the fountain – near the University’s main entrance.
