Your Student Experience, Your Students’ Union!
The Students’ Union (SU) is a democratic organisation run by students for students.
Trinity Saint David Students’ Union (TSDSU) exists to enhance the experience of all students studying at the University. The SU officers and staff are here to help you add value to your student experience by offering lots of activities, projects and leadership opportunities.
Don’t see something that you fancy getting involved in? Come and see us and set something up – we’re your Union and your vehicle to shape the type of student experience you want to have.
Your SU will support you through your time at University by protecting your rights and amplifying your voice. Your SU works by bringing together students from across the University to campaign for positive change on your course, in your academic School, on your campus, and in your local community and beyond.
We make sure that your concerns and ideas are at the centre of University decision-making and, through our membership of the National Union of Students, influencing decision makers on a national stage.
Our staff and officers are connected to University support structures and on hand to help you if you encounter problems, get into trouble, or are struggling with anything whilst at Uni. This means that from the minute you arrive there’s someone here to help.
Our specialty is academic issues but we will always know who to put you in touch with if you have other needs, and you’ll find that we’re friendly, discreet and ready to help.
We have a huge range of full-time officer, part-time officer and volunteering positions available each year – so there’s always an opportunity for you to get involved in leading your SU. Some of our most important positions are Course and Faculty Representatives – students elected by you to feed into discussions and decision-making within your academic Schools and on University committees.
Make sure that you know who your course rep is, and if you haven’t got one – put your name forward! Your SU supports all of our elected reps, makes sure that they’re trained, briefed and equipped to transform your education and make your experience awesome.
93% of UWTSD students were satisfied with ‘Clubs/Societies’ – Global ISBSB, Autumn Wave 2015.
The SU supports students to run your own sports teams and societies. We’ve got a good range across Swansea, Carmarthen and Lampeter – for the full list check out www.tsdsu.co.uk/groups We enter our sports teams into the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) leagues, and they compete against other Universities every Wednesday. Our societies are varied interest groups running loads of different events and activities throughout the year. If you’ve got a passion or an interest in any of our activities make sure you get involved. Sign up at the Freshers’ Fayre at the beginning of term, or failing that connect with groups through the website or Facebook, or pop into the SU and ask for joining details. New members are always welcome!
If you have an idea for a new club or society it’s also really easy to set one up, just find a few others that share your interest and pop in to see us – not only is this a great way to meet new like-minded people, but running a club or society looks great on your CV.
We also encourage you all to get involved in our volunteering project ‘The Project’. Volunteering is a great way to give something back to our local community, meet fantastic people, and develop your skills and experience. Graduate recruiters rate volunteering highly during recruitment and selection and it’s never too early to start thinking about your future career. We offer volunteering opportunities throughout our campus locations – so find out more, get involved and sign up!
