University of Sheffield Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to build your skills and experience whilst giving something back to the local community. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet local Sheffield residents and learn more about the city.

The Students’ Union runs a wide range of volunteering opportunities for students and can assist with finding the best placement for you. Check out their website for more details of how to get involved.

You could be working with children or animals; doing environmental work; working for a charity – there is guaranteed to be something to fit with your interests and skills.

If you are interested in volunteering overseas, there is the Global Volunteering programme which has projects all over the world. Or, you might prefer to spend your time assisting a global justice project with a presence in Sheffield.

Remember that your voluntary work can count towards your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) or the Sheffield Graduate Award.

The Students’ Union Student Advice Centre website includes important information that you should read if you are a Tier 4 visa holder so that you understand the difference between volunteering and voluntary work.

Volunteer your time

Don’t underestimate the value of volunteering! By giving your time not only can you contribute to your community but you will gain new skills and experiences, which will in turn enhance your personal development and can make an impact on your CV.
