The University of Sheffield invests heavily in the development of our postgraduate community. Please note that the central scholarship scheme for PhD funding at Sheffield for 2017/18 entry has now closed. In the interests of fairness, late applications will not be accepted. The results of the scholarship competitions for 2017/18 will be announced by 30th April 2017 at the latest and are available to view through your study application.

University of Sheffield Scholarships
The University of Sheffield invests heavily in the development of our postgraduate community. Please note that the central scholarship scheme for PhD funding at Sheffield for 2017/18 entry has now closed. In the interests of fairness, late applications will not be accepted.
These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis – applications are assessed on the basis of academic success and qualifications, experience, research background, a clear well-articulated research proposal, the potential impact of the research and a good match with supervisor/ departmental/ faculty expertise.

Applications for entry are now open via the postgraduate application system.
The University also directly funds project specific scholarships including the University Research Resource Scholarship and A*STAR research attachments. When available these projects will be advertised in the Projects Directory.
Research Council Scholarships
The UK Research Councils are a major source of financial support for research postgraduates. Applications for most Research Council Scholarships are made through the University, either through a central process (for ESRC DTP Awards) or via the academic department. Applications for the AHRC White Rose College of Arts and Humanities must be made direct to WRoCAH.

Other Funding Bodies
Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study, from small grants to full scholarships. Some are for specific subjects area while others have more general eligibility criteria. Please see our external funding page for a list of funding bodies and search sites which may help you to find other scholarships.
