Important information for 2017 entry

The information below is correct for the Human Nutrition courses for September 2017 entry and differs from what is in the Prospectus and other printed material.

For September 2017 entry the courses will be offered as Human Nutrition (MSc/PGDip).

The courses provide innovative research training in Human Nutrition. The courses are delivered by the Human Nutrition Unit in the Department of Oncology and Metabolism, supported by colleagues with expertise in Nutrition and in Public Health from the School of Health and Related Sciences.

The Masters course provides students with a thorough grounding in core competencies in Human Nutrition through taught modules in Biochemistry, Epidemiology & community nutrition, Physiology, Contemporary issues in global nutrition and Clinical nutrition. Students can choose to study one of three optional modules from Molecular Nutrition, Systematic review or Health promotion, and must complete a research project and dissertation supported by modules on Research methods and Statistics and Critical appraisal.

The Postgraduate Diploma course shares the same structure as the Masters course, but excludes the research project and dissertation module. The Postgraduate Certificate course allows students to study four 15 credit modules – either four core modules or three core modules plus one optional module.

Course Accreditation

The Masters course is accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN; accredited course No AC247). On graduation, students can apply for direct entry to the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) as Associate Nutritionists (ANutr). For further information about the AfN and the UKVRN see
