University of Oxford Year Abroad

If you are studying for a single or joint honours degree in Modern LanguagesOriental Studies, or Jurisprudence (Law with Law Studies in Europe) at undergraduate level, you may spend a year of your course studying or working abroad. The fee for this year abroad is reduced, and the level of the fee depends on your fee status.

Home/EU students will be required to pay a year abroad tuition fee of £1,350.

Subject to parliamentary approval in summer 2013, students from Wales who spend the year studying at an institution abroad or completing an Erasmus work placement will be able to receive a tuition fee grant for £675 from Student Finance Wales and will be able to access a non means-tested tuition fee loan for the remaining £675. Please note that Student Finance Wales have not yet announced their tuition fee support arrangements for students undertaking work placements abroad outside of the Erasmus programme.

Living Costs and Support

Students who study abroad at an overseas institution or who complete a full year Erasmus work placement are eligible to be financially assessed in their application for government maintenance support. These students will also be assessed for an Oxford Bursary during their year abroad and the University will use the household income figure which is calculated in their financial assessment to allocate this bursary.

Some undergraduate courses include a compulsory or optional year abroad. These courses are indicated on the Fees, funding and scholarship search. The fee for the year abroad depends on the year you started your course, your fee status and in some cases your household income.

Fees will usually increase annually. For details, please see our guidance on likely increases to fees and charges.
