If you are an applicant looking for an inspirational place to study, if you are a business interested in the research or collaborative opportunities within the School, or if you are just looking for general information about our activities, we welcome you to the School of Applied Sciences website and hope you find the information you need – if not please contact us.

The School of Applied Sciences provides a vibrant teaching, learning and research environment for over 1500 students and 100 staff encompassing Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Food and Nutrition, Forensic Science, and Pharmacy. We deliver an inspirational learning experience and undertake pioneering research with a practical applied emphasis.

We offer a varied and exciting portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the applied sciences and our staff pride themselves on their commitment to supporting students. This support comes not just from our Higher Education Academy qualified academic staff, but also through our tailored study support system and the technical support required for delivery of practical classes and research projects.

Our established research profile and industry links allow us to maintain the quality and contemporary nature of our courses, keeping pace with an ever changing and increasingly technological world. Our students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of practical based work, and may also spend time on work placements developing skills and making vital contacts. All of this contributes to our excellent student employability statistics. If you are looking to further your educational experience in science, why not check out our current course portfolio and consider where it might lead you. Alternatively if you want further information please feel free to contact us.

Staff in Applied Sciences are nationally – and internationally – recognised for their research.  They have an excellent trajectory in terms of research profile, and a record of attracting external funding from bodies such as the UK Research Councils, including the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and charities such as the Wellcome Trust, Leverhulme Trust and Yorkshire Cancer Research. We also have a large portfolio of research and consultancy work with local, national and international industries. Much of our work has a focus on applications in society from colour chemistry and analytical technologies through to drug formulation and delivery. We are based in the Science Building, which houses our research and teaching laboratories, where students, staff and collaborators have access to a wide range of modern technologies.

If you’re interested in our research, consultancy or the possibilities of collaboration, we look forward to hearing from you.
