Student societies

There are a number of active and exciting student societies which offer practical opportunities to get involved in different areas of sustainability across our Exeter and Cornwall Campuses.  These include:

Bee SocietyFXUDedicated to raising awareness amongst both students and the local community on issues concerning our pollinators. They run research talks, a certified bee keeping course for members, with practical sessions in the society’s own campus beehives.
Be The ChangeStudents’ GuildSociety encourages students to make a difference both locally and globally through a variety of projects and events.
BioSocStudents’ GuildSociety for Biology and Life sciences students and anyone interested, BioSoc runs a variety of events often with green themes and environmental links.
Eco SocietyFXUAims to give everyone the opportunity to learn about nature, experience Cornish wildlife, gain skills in ecology and conservation, help local projects and raise the profile of wildlife to everyone. They run many different events such as moth trapping, bird ringing, beach cleans, photography workshops and habitat management.
EnactusFXUSociety that uses the power of entrepreneurial lives to create a better, more sustainable future. We currently have three projects being run on campus including Launchpad, BEE Project and the NEETs project.
Engineers Without BordersFXUBranch of EWB-UK and embodies their mission to lead a movement which inspires, enables and influences global responsibility through engineering. Projects so far have included everything from trips around Cornwall to sessions on making home-made solar panels.
Engineers Without Borders ExeterStudents’ GuildExeter branch of an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. Its programmes provide opportunities for young people to learn about technology’s role in tackling poverty.
EnviroSocStudents’ Guild University of Exeter’s newly reborn Environment Society.
Exeter University Bike ClubStudents’ GuildStudent run club with a comprehensive range of Road and Off-Road rides. We have about 70 members and compete in local races and BUCS competitions.
Expedition SocietyFXUThe Expedition society runs full day hikes to stunning locations such as Bodmin and North Devon and also half days walks to some of the more local locations around Penryn and Falmouth.
Expedition SocietyStudents’ GuildAnyone who has a sense of adventure, a love of the outdoors, or just a fondness for a sociable pint will find themselves more than at home in the Expedition Society.
Generation WildFXUAn exciting, new student-project. The projects main goal is to form links with local schools and Scout/Guides groups, to get children engaged and learning about the natural environment.
Geography SocietyFXUWe are a society dedicated to all things geography – past events have included themed nights out, adventures around the country and surf trips. Our calendar is always full, with a variety of cultural, sporty and social trips, so you are sure to find something that appeals to you.
Geology for Global DevelopmentFXUIs the Cornwall chapter with a number of similar University groups around the country providing support for the wider geoscience community in communicating the need for sustainable practice in areas such as mining, water collection and earthquake prediction.
Green Living SocietyFXUThis society is for Nature Lovers, Green Activists, Foraging Fanatics and all kinds of Gardeners. No experience required and lots of fun to be had.
Herpetology SocietyFXUOffer hands on opportunities with herptiles as well as gaining knowledge on native and exotic herpetofauna.
Out-of-DoorsStudents’ GuildSociety for those interested in exploring the countryside of the South West.
Oxfam SocietyStudents’ GuildPassionate about global issues? Exeter University Oxfam Society is looking for campaigners who want to join Oxfam’s global movement of volunteers.
Life MagazineFXULife is the nature magazine of the Cornwall Campuses, showcasing cutting edge research with stunning photography. Written and produced by students from both institutions, it is a real collaboration between the Universities.
Love The OceansFXUNon-profit marine conservation organisation working in Guinjata bay, Mozambique. Our goal is to achieve a marine protected area for the Inhambane Provence and active a higher biodiversity whilst protecting endangered species.
NatureWatchFXUA project run by Ecosoc, WildDocSoc and CLES working with students to create short documentary episodes focusing on Cornish wildlife. All current students from Exeter and Falmouth can apply to join the crew or the presenting team.
Renewable Energy SocieyFXUThrough socials, talks, trips and networking events we connect like-minded individuals at the Cornwall Campuses. Joining the society gives you the opportunity to attend talks from professionals in renewable energy industry, participate in sustainability themed field trips and engage in environmental projects on campus.
Slow Food on CampusStudents’ GuildSociety for those interested in food! The society aims to change food and farming through shared inspiration, food education and collective action.
Wild Doc SocFXUDo you love wildlife media? Are you the next David Attenborough? Want to be inspired by some of the best names in the industry? Then Wild Doc Soc is the society for you! We’ve had visits from some of the biggest names in the world of wildlife, including Steve Backshall, George McGavin, Nick Baker and Gordon Buchanan!
