The University of Derby Students’ Union (UDSU) is the representative organisation for students at the University of Derby, and is based within the Students’ Union Quarter at the Kedleston Road site.

Its main bar and entertainments venue, the Academy, was opened in April 2006. The venue has a capacity of 570 and has been host to artists including Girls Aloud, Pendulum, Scouting for Girls, Sugababes, Zane Lowe, Taio Cruz, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

Student media at the University of Derby Students’ Union includes a newspaper, Phantom, and a Student Radio station Phantom Radio.

When you start studying at Derby you don’t just join the University, you also join the Students’ Union.

Although we often work together, we’re completely separate from the University, and whether you’re after activities, representation, volunteering opportunities, employability, help and advice or just a pre-lecture coffee, we’ll be here for you throughout your studies.

The University of Derby Students’ Union exists to help you get the best out of your degree, not only providing great opportunities but representing you on your programme and university-wide. We’re run by students, for students and as a non-profit charity; everything we do is to make your life at the University of Derby amazing.
