University of Cambridge Ed D Research Communities

For the duration of their studies all EdD students are members of a Research Community. Research Communities meet regularly, providing opportunities to engage with fellow students across the year groups. There are three Research Communities:

EdD Information Sessions

If you are interested in visiting us, why not attend one of our EdD Information sessions? These are designed to support potential candidates in making applications to the EdD programme. For candidates applying to commence their studies in October 2017 there will be sessions on: 13th October 2016, 8th December 2016, 19th January 2017, all 5.30-7.00pm

Researching Professional Practice

The EdD is an innovative part-time programme harnessing the experience of excellent doctoral research in order to generate, develop and disseminate professional knowledge and support innovation that will have social and educational impact. Participants will design and implement substantial research projects. Applicants will be experienced educational professionals, including teachers, school leaders and those working in related fields (e.g. policy, support or management), who are committed to extending their understanding and improving practice.

Programme structure

In the first two years, there is a programme of research methods sessions. In the third, fourth and fifth years there are seminars relevant to the particular stage of the EdD. Students in all years also attend sessions with their Research Community, as well as one-to-one supervisions with an academic whose expertise links with the area in which they are conducting their doctoral research.
