Entry requirements

This page lists the minimum entry requirements which all applicants for 2018/19 entry must fulfil in order to be considered for admission onto the Medicine MBBS course.

Applicants meeting these criteria will then be ranked for interview based upon Our Selection Procedure.

Entry requirements

  • You must be aged 18 or over on 1 October in the year you start the course.
  • Applicants must take the UKCAT in the year of application.
  • You must not have been previously enrolled on a medical degree elsewhere.
  • Resits of GCSEs are accepted.
  • A-level exams should be normally be completed within a two-year period of study, however applications are welcome from students who have achieved AAB at first sitting and are taking one additional year to achieve AAA.
  • For students re-sitting A-levels who achieved lower than AAB at first sitting, we will consider documentary evidence of mitigating circumstances that occurred around the time of A-level exams and were reported to the school or exam board at the time. This must be submitted to us by 1 October in the year of application.

Qualifications from elsewhere

In addition to the specific requirements shown here for your country, you must have formal qualifications taken at age 16 which equate to our GCSE requirements (see above). If you don’t, we will consider your application based on your school or college Middle Years Programme assessments, your UKCAT score, and other factors. If you’re not sure how this relates to you or if your country does not feature in our list, please download and complete our admissions entry form for us to conduct an assessment of your academic qualifications.
