JOHN WALKER was born in Preston, Lancashire, and studied Medieval History at the University of St. Andrews. He completed his Ph.D at St. Andrews on the English patrons of two military orders: the Templars and the Order of St. Lazarus. He has taught in secondary schools and at the former University College Scarborough. In 1991 he came to Hull to work for the Victoria County History, a local history research project, and began teaching in the History Department. In 2003 he was appointed as Director of the Department’s part-time programmes in Archaeology, British Maritime History and Regional and Local History. He currently teaches on the B.A. History Degree programme, M.A. in Medieval History, and co-ordinates and teaches on the part-time B.A. in Regional and Local History.

Dr Walker is currently working on a study of the myths associated with the Knights Templar. An article entitled “The Templars are everywhere”, an examination of the myths surrounding the survival of the Templars after 1312, was published in 2010 as part of a collection of work on the Trial of the Templars.
