The University of Hull provides access to a wide range of digital resources helping you to trace books and articles, track down internet resources and view the full text of journal articles from your own device. Most of the resources can be found in, and accessed from the Library Catalogue. The Library Catalogue also includes many valuable resources which remain in printed form only.

You can access the digital resources wherever and whenever you choose and you will normally need your University used ID and password to access them (Further information on Passwords).

  • Electronic Journals A-Z list  Search for individual journal titles or select a collection from the A-Z list
  • Databases, reference works and other resources  Access is provided to over 350 databases and reference works and includes indexes to journal articles, theses, government publications, library catalogues, Internet resources and reference works, e.g. dictionaries, encyclopaedias, directories, timetables etc.
  • eBooksThe library subscribes to various collections of e-books which can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. Collections include titles from leading academic publishers and allow easy searching options. Search for e-books via the Library Catalogue by running your search and then using the filter to select eBooks only.
  • LibGuidesEach subject guide provides access to the best Library resources available to students at the University of Hull.
  • SummonSummon enables you to search across the majority of the Library’s digital resources, covering journal articles, electronic books, web resources, newspaper articles, and more, plus link through to the full-text of these where available.

Digital texts

The Library can digitise book chapters and journal articles to support departmental teaching. The digital versions are available to students and staff at the University of Hull in PDF format.  Links to the files can be placed in the reading lists and on the VLE.

Please note that this material is for use ONLY by students registered on the relevant course of study. For more information please contact digitisation@hull.ac.uk.

Authorised users

The following people are entitled to access electronic resources both on and off campus:

  • Staff (full-time, part-time, fee paid and honorary)
  • Students (full-time, part-time, distance-taught or on franchised courses)
  • Retired members of academic and academic-related staff*

*Please note that retired staff cannot access all electronic resources due to licence restrictions imposed by the resource provider.

The following may only access electronic resources from PCs within the Brynmor Jones Library or Keith Donaldson Library.  This does not include any resources which require password authentication on campus:

  • Students on validated programmes
  • Associate readers – Associate Readers must apply for a campus network userid and password by filling in this online form or at the Welcome Desk in the Brynmor Jones Library or the Issue Desk in the Keith Donaldson Library.
  • Recognised teachers of the University
