University of the Highlands and Islands Argyll College

Argyll College UHI offer further and higher education in one of the most geographically fragmented areas of Scotland. From Tobermory in the north to Campbeltown in the south and Dunoon in the east our 11 Centres provide students with support, high-speed internet access and video conferencing facilities.

Graduation information

Our 2017 Graduation Ceremony will take place on Friday 6th October 2017, 1pm, in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, Oban.

If you are a final year degree student and you expect to qualify then you will be notified by UHI.  We can then send you the details for graduating at Argyll College and you can register for this by emailing, or calling 01631 559675.

Further Education students, HNC and HND students will have already been emailed invitations and details of the event, but you must still register to attend it either by registering online using the form below or by emailing or phoning Helen Gillies.  Please note that you may only graduate if you have passed your course.  Also, don’t forget to hire your gown if you are graduating with SVQ 3 Childcare, Health & Social Care, HNC or HND, or any level of degree.

The registration deadline for our 2017 ceremony is 22nd September 2017.

You will automatically be allocated two guest places but please make sure that you still let us know how many guests you are bringing. You may bring up to 2 additional guests at a costs of £5 each. Additional guest places will be allocated on a first come basis so we cannot guarantee these spaces. Very small children can come for free if they are sitting on someone’s knee.

Please note that we will not issue tickets for guests but we will have a guest list at the venue.

Young children

Our ceremony is not really suitable for babies or very young children so we recommend you do not bring them into the hall.

However, we know it can be difficult finding childcare, so if you are bringing younger guests to our ceremony, please try to ensure they remain as quiet as possible so as not to spoil other guests’ enjoyment of the occasion.

Guests leaving the hall during the ceremony may have to wait for a steward to readmit them at an appropriate time.

Special arrangements for guests

If you or your guests have mobility difficulties, or any other disability that might affect your enjoyment of the ceremony, please tell us when you register so that we can reserve appropriate seating for you.

What happens on the day

If you are graduating with a Higher Education award you will need to collect your gown and hood before the ceremony – if you are graduating with a Further Education Award ( up to level 6) you do not need to do this and should arrive at Argyllshire Gathering Halls no later than 12.15pm.

This year gowning will take in the Oban Learning Centre at Glenshellach Business Park between 10am and 12noon. Our Oban centre is located near Lorn & Islands Hospital and is approximately 2 miles from the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, so you should make appropriate transport arrangements.
