University of Hertfordshire Interview Day

The interview day

Interview day

Your interview day is an important part of our application process. We offer a programme of events before and after your interview including talks and tours of the campus.

We normally hold our interviews on a Wednesday afternoon (12:30 onwards approx), but we also host a number of interview days on Saturdays as well.

You will be able to choose when you attend either during the week or at the weekend and we hold interviews from January onwards so there is plenty of time to visit us prior to the interview and prepare your portfolio.

The day:

The Interview Day is structured into 2 main parts:

  • Portfolio review
  • Individual interview

All portfolios are reviewed by academic staff, which allows us to quickly assess your work, your approach and your overall suitability for the course. This assessment is formally recorded and is a key aspect of the offer process.

During your time with us, we will provide you with more information about the University so you can make sure that it’s the right choice for you. This will help inform and confirm your interest in us. There will also be an opportunity to look around our facilities if you haven’t already done so.

Open day

We also strongly encourage you to visit us during an Open Day before selecting your course. There are further opportunities to tour School facilities and the wider University campus itself.

There may be students’ work for you to see and possibly students to talk to. However, there may be times when the students are working off-site so we cannot guarantee this.

Interview day

The interview

A good interview matters, try to demonstrate and communicate your overall commitment and enthusiasm for your chosen subject area.

The interview will last around 10-15 minutes, depending on your portfolio and any questions you may have. During this time, academic staff will talk to you about your work, ideas and experiences.
