Public Transport to Medway


Most bus services in Medway are operated by Arriva. The 116 and 191 both run through the campus with several other buses stopping close-by in Dock Road. Most bus stop at Chatham train station (not the 116).

  • 116 Arriva: Chatham – Universities – Gillingham – Rainham – Hempstead Valley
  • 151 Nu-Venture: Kings Hill  – Chatham Maritime
  • 170 (ASD); 174/175 (Nu Venture): Chatham – Strood (via tunnel)
  • 190 Arriva: Gravesend – Rochester – Chatham – Universities
  • 191/193/796 Arriva: Grain – Allhallows – Hoo – Strood – Rochester – Chatham – Universities – Gillingham (Strand)

From Wood Street (10 minutes walk):

  • 101 Arriva: Maidstone – Gillingham
  • N1/N2 Night bus ASD: Strood – Rochester – Chatham – Gillingham – Wigmore

Arriva – discounted tickets

As a University of Greenwich student you can obtain around 65% off the normal cost of a student ticket on Arriva buses throughout Medway, Kent and East Sussex! More information here 


The train operator Southeastern provides services to the Medway towns. All timetable information is available from National Rail Enquiries. Chatham station has the best bus services taking 5 to 10 minutes to the campus whereas Gillingham station is around 10 minutes on the 116 bus from nearby Canterbury Street, or about 20 minutes walking.

Trains from London

London Victoria, Cannon Street, Charing Cross and London Bridge have frequent services to Chatham, the journey takes 45 to 60 minutes. There are a few off-peak direct services from Greenwich, Falconwood and New Eltham (for Avery Hill Campus), however a change is usually necessary at Charlton or Dartford. There are also regular high speed trains from London St Pancras Station to Chatham taking just 40 minutes.

Trains from south and east Kent

There are regular trains to Chatham from Maidstone, Dover, Canterbury and Thanet.
