Dr Xue Jin’s research is on the water-energy nexus. She focuses on: membrane technologies for water purification and renewable energy production; nanomaterials in environmental systems and  colloidal and interfacial processes in aquatic systems.

Research interests

Biography

Dr Jin received her B.S. degree in Environmental Science & Engineering (2002) at the Tsinghua University, China and Ph.D. degree (2007) in Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Between 2006 and 2009, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher with Prof. Eric M.V. Hoek in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Before joining the University of Glasgow as a Lecturer in 2012, Dr Jin worked as a Research Fellow at the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Singapore Membrane Technology Center at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Research Interests

Motivated by the pressing need for sustainable water supply, Dr Jin will perform cutting-edge research in physicochemical and biological processes that impact water quality in natural aqueous environment as well as engineered treatment systems. Her main research interests include membrane materials and processes for water purification and renewable energy production; direct use of solar and renewable energies in desalination and water treatment; novel application of nanomaterials for advanced water treatment; environmental implications of nanotechnology; advanced technologies for water and wastewater treatment; and colloidal and interfacial processes in aquatic systems.
