Archive Service

The University Archive contains resources that can be used to refresh your memory about campus life in previous decades. You might just want to visit and read through them for your own pleasure, or you might want to create a display or a presentation for friends at a reunion. The staff of Archive Services are always happy to hear from Alumni who want to consult the collection.

Some of the resources available:

  • Glasgow University student publications give a flavour of the social scene – you may remember Glasgow University Magazine (GUM), Gilmorehill Guardian or Glasgow University Guardian.
  • Students’ Representative Council Handbooks give annual guidance traditionally aimed particularly at Freshers.
  •  Yearbooks and group photos exist for Medical, Dental and Engineering Students but very few others.
Union Board and SRC Executive photos
  •  University Calendars list interesting facts about teaching and qualifications including the names of staff members, course summaries, entry and fee payment requirements.
  • Photographs of staff, buildings and campus maps across the decades
  • Presscuttings books give the outside world’s view of the University
  • Information may also be found on graduation ceremonies, clubs and societies, Rectorial elections, charities days, Commemoration Days and much more…
