TRADING AND INVESTMENT
UETIS University of Essex Trading and Investment Society is a society for anyone keen to learn more about and discuss financial markets, investing, trading and portfolio management on Bloomberg Terminal.
Juggling, Fire and MAGIC
The Juggling, Fire and Magic Society is a fun social society, where you can learn and practice a range of skills commonly known as ‘circus skills’ including juggling, spinning staff, poi, devil sticks, magic and fire props.
Night Ninjas volunteer in SU venues to ensure everyone has enjoyable nights and gets home safely. We give free water and advice to anyone who needs it, occasionally helping recover lost items. Counting towards the BigE Award and your CV.
The Origami Society will give you the opportunity to spend a few relaxing, fun and productive hours a week learning how to make all kinds of different and beautiful things from the simple sheet of paper.
We are a fun and friendly society made up of students and representatives from Toastmasters International. We work with students to improve each other’s public speaking skills and raise confidence by putting students in situations where they can speak.
Roleplay and Gaming
A roleplaying game is a mixture of storytelling and drama, with a bit of dice rolling thrown in for good measure! We run different games most evenings, so there should be something to suit anyone who wants to get involved.
Sci-Fi and Fantasy society is an active and creative society, where members can join other enthusiasts in a range of events! From weekly TV screenings and games nights, to cinema trips out and convention visits, to team-building events such as Laser Tag and volunteering opportunities, there’s something for everyone at Sci-Fi!
St John Ambulance LINKS
LINKS is the university division of St John Ambulance, the UK’s leading first aid charity. We provide basic to advanced first aid training to all our members. Join and be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
Student scouting and guiding Organisation

The Yoga & Meditation society is a friendly and open network for like-minded members with similar goals of mental and physical well-being. We practice a variation of yoga and meditation classes, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Namaste!
Film Soc is a group that consists of Film buffs and enthusiasts alike who meet for weekly events usually geared towards the world of Cinema, where members can feel at home viewing and discussing movies together.

We are the makeup society. We are not all make-up artists, but we all have a passion for makeup. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or an expert everyone is welcome to come along and share tips or just learn from others.
The Hair Society acts as a safe, inclusive place for people who are interested in hair, and caring for their own hair. We run events and competitions as well as offering Hair Ambassadors to the Essex student community.

ELSA aims to introduce its members to the advantages of being a law student in Europe by giving them access to internships, summer schools, and allowing them to interact within Essex University to develop their legal knowledge and personal skills.
We hold lots of socials, from the Museums in London to the Streets of Colchester, we hold regular quizzes, film nights, barbeques, gaming nights, and have large themed termly socials as well as supporting students with their degrees.
An inclusive, gold-standard society for law and non-law students interested in a career in law or what being a law student entails. With informative career talks, off and on-campus trips and socials, and support for students.
Both fun and educational, this society helps students understand that marketing goes far beyond the theory learned during lectures.
The Occupational Therapy Society is for all those interested in OT. We aim to bring together students across the cohorts through regular Continuing Professional Development events, fundraising and social meet, proving we can play just as hard as we work.
With direct links to the CSP, the society provides a discussion and learning platform whilst promoting physiotherapy in the community. With part-time, full-time, BSc and MSc students, our society brings cohorts together through social activities, fundraising events and volunteering opportunities.
We foster political discussion where all are free to express their opinions in an open environment. We aim to increase cooperation between different political groups on campus, organise trips to Westminster and Berlin and create friendships that span political divides.
The Psychology Society is not only for psychology students, but for all Essex students with an interest in the human mind. It is a great opportunity for anyone to find friends with the same interests and have fun.
The Sociology Society (Soc Soc) is for any students that are in the Sociology department such as Criminology and Anthropology or for anyone interested in these disciplines. We will hold different events including quizzes, trips, debates, support groups and nights out!
Speech and Language Therapy
We aim to raise awareness of the role of Speech and Language Therapy in a multitude of areas, fundraise for our chosen charities and provide opportunities for members to gain experience in being involved with future client groups.
We are Essex’s very own Alternative Music society. A collection of likeminded people who all share a love for music of all walks and influences .We meet regularly via socials gigs and fundraisers and help promote Colchester’s local scene.
We are the society for the student members of The University of Essex Choir which was founded in 1977 and has about 150 singers.

BSPS is a friendly political forum for all students who wish to learn and discuss issues in the Black community such as BlackLivesMatter, colourism, political apathy, Black achievements and so on while also hosting debates, guest speakers, career opportunities, etc.

EnviroSoc is for all students who want to work together to protect the planet and fight climate change, to discuss environmental issues, and to organise against the greatest threat of our generation.

LGBT & Friends
The LGBT+ and Friends society, is a society for members of the LGBT* community, their friends and allies. We hold socials, forums and are a form of support. All our socials are a safe space for everyone to be themselves.
Model United Nations is the simulation of UN meetings and conferences. We organise weekly meetings and conferences, discussing issues of global importance, so that our members become aware of the procedures that are being followed in the actual UN meetings.

The University of Essex Palestinian Solidarity Group is a group of students from all over the world dedicated to the Palestinian cause.
Sanguine Mental Health
Sanguine warmly welcomes anyone interested in joining a friendly, supportive and empathetic community. We consider the mental wellbeing of students as paramount, and are pro- active in our approach to helping others, both directly and through charity fundraising.
The Socialist Society aims to broaden the political discussion available on campus, and provide support for student to engage in like-minded campaigns and activism, both on campus and in the wider world.

Believers’ LoveWorld Campus Ministry is the youth arm of Believers’ LoveWorld, a unique and dynamic ministry called by God to play a chief role in the end time move of the Spirit.

Chinese Christian Fellowship
We are a group of Chinese students who are interested in Christianity and gospel. We have gathering together every Friday night. It has been started for more than 15 years since 1997. We pray, sing hymns, study the Bible, watch movies, play sports and share food.
Our aim as a CU is to give every student on campus the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus. We are a friendly group of people who want to serve others and let God use us to bless every student on Campus.

Jesus Alive Fellowship is a society that declares the resurrecting power of Jesus our Lord in our lives, and specifically our community Essex University. We aim to provide a community that ultimately cultivates the kingdom culture holistically (socially, spiritually and academically).
