Welcome to Essex

Congratulations! You’re on your way to an exciting new life as a member of the Essex community. There’s a lot to take in and do but we’ll guide you through it. You’ll find all the essential information on these pages and much more in the welcome pack we’ll send you in the post.

New student registration

All new students and returning students must register at the start of each academic year. As a new student this includes activating your student record for the academic year and your email account, getting access to IT and library services, enrolling on modules and confirming your contact details.

Step 1: Obtain your Essex login details before you arrive

  1. Register for your IT account and get your Essex username and password.
  2. Step 2: Register in person when you arrive

Documents you must bring to Registration

    • All students:
      • photo ID (eg passport, driving license or national identity card)
      • original certificates of your qualifications (if our Admissions team have asked to see them)
      • documents relating to how you are paying your tuition fees (if you’re self-funded, you will need to pay at least one term’s tuition fees before you can register)

  • Additional documents for non-EEA international students: (read more about visa checks at registration)
    • passport
    • visa/BRP (if your BRP is ready before Registration, you should collect your BRP first and bring it with you)
    • a copy of your CAS statement

Where and when to register

All new students starting their studies from January to August 2017 will need to register in their Student Services Hub. If you’re registering as an Essex Abroad or Essex Pathways student, you will be contacted directly by your department with details about the date and time of your registration session. All other students should make their own arrangements to register during the opening hours of their Student Services Hub.
