Over half of the degree programmes in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences are delivered by LLC and in the REF2014 approximately 75% of the research activity in the School was rated world leading and internationally excellent (3* or 4*).
We offer the widest breadth of languages in the UK. Across the school we teach all of the official languages of the United Nations and eight of the 23 official languages of the European Union, including three of the four official working languages (French, German and Italian). When combined, our expertise in European, Asian, Celtic and Middle Eastern languages offer an unparalleled choice of language and cultural studies.
The University of Edinburgh’s English literature department has been established for over 250 years, making it the longest established centre of literary education in Britain and one of the oldest in the world. Studying literature in the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, JK Rowling, Ian Rankin and Kenneth Grahame is an inspirational setting that is beyond compare.
Our Graduate School holds a world class reputation and a wealth of taught and research postgraduate programmes across all areas of literature, language studies and cultural interests.
