Internationally renowned, research-led teaching Internationally renowned, research-led teaching

Welcome to the School of Psychology at the University of East Anglia – ranked in the Top 10 Psychology departments in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2017).

We are the newest School of Psychology in a research-intensive UK university, with a thriving British Psychological Society accredited degree programme that is consistently rated most highly by our students. Our teaching is research-led, with internationally renowned researchers sharing the excitement of new discoveries in psychological science that impact upon how we understand each other and the world in which we live. Our students have a great experience here: we consistently perform well in the National Student Survey (NSS). In the 2016 NSS UEA was ranked joint 3rd out of all English mainstream universities, with the School of Psychology receiving an overall satisfaction rating of 92 per cent.

We promote a friendly, scholarly and stimulating atmosphere for our students, providing them with the knowledge and skills that make psychology graduates among the most employable in the UK.

Most recently the School of Psychology has enjoyed success in the Research Excellence Framework (2014); all of the research submitted was judged to be of international quality, with over 80% rated as world leading or internationally excellent.

We are committed to the principles of the Athena SWAN charter which recognises and celebrates good practice in recruiting, retaining and promoting women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) in higher education. We are delighted to have been recently awarded the bronze award.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at UEA has also recently announced its membership of SeNSS, a social sciences focused research and doctoral training partnership (DTP) consisting of ten universities, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). This award will enable UEA and its SeNSS partners to offer fully-funded ESRC doctoral studentships over the next six years and to provide the very highest quality of social sciences research training to successful applicants.

ESRC funded studentships for the first SeNNS intake, due to begin their studies in October 2017, will be advertised shortly and funding is potentially available to both home and EU students and relative to all subject areas in the Faculty of Social Sciences at UEA including Psychology.

Why Psychology at UEA?

At UEA we offer a range of psychology programmes catering for students with broad or specific interests within the field of psychology – and all with the option of a year abroad. All of our programmes are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership.

Choosing psychology at UEA offers a high staff-student ratio, with small-group seminars in addition to lectures, and a range of additional activities with an employability focus.
