University of dundee student union

Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA), better known as ‘the Union’, is one of the most successful students’ unions in the country.  It’s rated number one in the UK in the National Student Survey year after year.

MONO is the Union’s main nightclub.  It has a capacity of over 1000 and knows how to fill it with legendary club nights like the massive Halloween and St Patrick’s Day parties.  It also hosts weekly favourites such as Skint, the club night that gives you chart hits and student anthems every Tuesday night.

On the music front, recently hosted bands and DJs include Pendulum and Tinchy Stryder. Radio 1 DJs such as Scott Mills, Chris Stark and Danny Howard also make regular guest appearances.

The Union also offers Floor 5, an alternative clubbing venue for those into drum & bass, indie and guitar rock sounds, as well as two more bars – the Liar Bar and Air Bar. The bars offer a range of entertainment at night, from karaoke and open mic to big screen sport.

Union facilities

The Union is the perfect place to find everything you might need between lectures. The Premier Shop is a large convenience store (managed by the Students’ Association) which sells everything from groceries and magazines to stationery and lab coats. If you’re waiting for friends there’s WiFi throughout the building and the Pool Hall contains 18 pool tables and the latest in video games and quiz machines.

The Union has become renowned for its fantastic food which includes our food court on Level 4, offering a fast food takeaway service covering everything from breakfast to late night party snacks as well as the hugely popular all-you-can-eat buffets throughout the semester. Air Bar provides fine coffees and pastries, and Liar Bar serves fast lunches during the day. Proving that your money goes a bit further in Dundee, our shops and bars are consistently ranked the best value for money in the UK.

Student societies

You won’t be bored if we have anything to do with it. We’ve got over 100 societies and they cover an exhaustive list of activities and interests. We have

  • political societies like the Feminist Society, Labour Students and Greens
  • societies raising valuable funds and publicity for charities like Amnesty International and One Water
  • societies for people interested in certain countries or cultures such as the Hellenic Society, Indian Society and Nordic Society
  • religious-affiliated societies such as the Christian Union, Catholic Society and Islamic Society
  • academic groups like the societies for Computing, Philosophy and Psychology. You’ll find the majority of our subjects have a like-minded group of people getting together to talk shop
  • societies for general good times such as the Comedy Club, Sci-Fi Society and the BBQ, Baking & Coffee Society

Why not try something totally different? The LIP Theatre Company and OpSoc will allow you to explore your creative side and get out on the stage. DARE, a student-run charitable society supporting international development, will get you raising money through bungee jumps, sponsored cycle rides and other daring adventures.

And if you’re into something really niche, you could always start your own society!
