University of dundee pre dental year

The Pre-Dental Year is an additional year which prepares students for the standard BDS Dentistry course.

Overview

The Pre-Dental Year is suitable for two groups of applicants in particular. All candidates will be expected to have undertaken the UKCAT test prior to entry, and short listed candidates will undergo Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI). For both groups, passing the Pre-Dental Year with a satisfactory grade average (B3 or above) and competitive UKCAT and MMI performance is required for progression onto the BDS Dentistry course itself.

Pre-Dental Year for Widening Access (Gateway to Dentistry) (A204)

From 2017 entry, applicants with proven evidence of adverse circumstances leading to significant educational disadvantage can apply for entry to the pre-dental year.

The entry requirements for this group of applicants is lower than for the BDS Dentistry (A200) course. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of significant adverse circumstances such as lower than average progression rates to higher education from their school, limited family income, neighbourhood or home circumstances not conducive to study, education affected by adverse events at critical times or other exceptional factors.

Additional support structures are in place for this student group.

Pre-Dental Year for Non-Science Background (A204)

Each year, places are available for very able applicants who have a predominantly non-science background (i.e. those who have not studied either Higher or A-Level Chemistry). This is not a Foundation course, and applicants will be expected to have demonstrated comparable performance to those with a science background who come straight into the BDS Dentistry course.
