University of Derby Foundation Degree

University of Derby Foundation Degree, If you have the potential and ambition to study with us at the University of Derby, but don’t meet our entry requirements for a full degree, you can choose to start your journey at one of our foundation levels.

This is also a great option if you’ve changed your mind about your career since you chose your A-levels or BTECs and need to improve your skills in a different subject area.

From day one you’ll get all the benefits of being a University of Derby student, plus extra support to help you build your knowledge, skills and confidence.

We offer three different foundation levels:

  • Year Zero
  • Foundation degrees and HND
  • Degrees with foundation year

Year Zero

The University of Derby offers Year Zero courses in:

  • Art and Design
  • Engineering and Technology

If you don’t have the appropriate qualifications to get straight on to a bachelors degree, you can do this one year preparatory course first.

You will be based in Derby at either our Kedleston Road or Markeaton Street site, both of which have fantastic facilities.

The Year Zero route provides a smooth transition to degree studies at the University of Derby. Ours is the most comprehensive programme of its kind in the Midlands.

Foundation degrees and HND

Our two year foundation degree courses (FdA, FdSc, FdEng, HND) are offered across a range of subjects. Search for a course.

You’ll be taught by University of Derby staff who teach our honours degree and you’ll be based on campus, using the same facilities as our bachelors degree students.

Once you have completed your course, you can choose to transfer to the final year of a bachelors degree in a related subject.

Degrees with foundation year

If you have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly on to our bachelors degree programme, you can choose a four year course including a foundation year stage.
