University Of Cumbria Jane Allstate
My first degree was in Interdisciplinary Human Studies which I followed with an MA in Applied Social Studies. I then became a Social Worker, working for 15 years in various roles connected with Child Protection and Safeguarding. These included working alongside families and as an advisor and trainer for two Area Child Protection Committees. My first teaching role after I achieved my Post Graduate Certificate in Education was in FE at Workington Sixth Form College, and from this I moved into working for the University.
I am committed to the widening participation agenda and to making HE as accessible as possible, and so I am involved in recruitment and running the study skills module across the faculty. I believe this builds confidence for those who have been away from education for some time.
