Although the University of Cumbria’s roots are firmly placed in the North of England, we also provide outstanding teacher training and professional policing qualifications in the East End of this famous capital city.
How to find us
Our London campus is located on East India Dock Road in Tower Hamlets. It’s approximately six minutes walk from DLR Westferry and is on direct bus routes served by buses 115, D6, 15 – just ask for the University of Cumbria in London stop which is directly outside.
Our university library has an extensive collection of materials to support your studies. Just in case you can’t find what you need though, the Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service is also available for further resources including books, props, costumes and artefacts to use in classrooms. Need somewhere to catch lunch between lectures? The Conservatory is an on-site café which serves up hot and cold drinks and a variety of snacks to keep you going through your studies.

Needless to say, London has plenty of attractions to suit every taste. Shopping, history, culture, entertainment – whatever you’re looking for, you’re bound to be satisfied. Our campus is just 20 minutes away from the O2 Arena by public transport, giving you direct access to some of the UK’s most sought-after performances.
Oxford Street has over a mile and a half of high street shops, department stores and eating places, providing the perfect shopping destination for students. You’re also only 15 minutes walk away from the vibrant and diverse Chrisp Street, a Victorian era shopping district with an eclectic range of small retail outlets, market stalls and cafes selling produce from around the world.
Food and Drink
For food and drink, you won’t want to miss out on visiting one of the oldest pubs in London. Located close to our campus, The Grapes has been recommended by the Good Pub Food Guide for over 15 years. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet leaseholder Sir Ian McKellen!
Nearby Canary Wharf has a great variety of places to grab a bite to eat or a coffee to keep you going, as well as many wine and cocktail bars including The Parlour and Wahaca for a fun night out. If you’re looking for something a bit different, then Fat Boys Diner is a cool hangout that serves up every burger, fries and shake combo you could wish for. Enjoy eating in a 1940’s style restaurant just 15 minutes from campus.
