Having featured in the top ten most desirable places to live, the picturesque town of Epsom is popular with students, professionals and families – it’s a welcoming and sociable town located at the edge of the Surrey Hills and close to London.

But did you know…

  • Led Zeppelin’s founder Jimmy Page discovered his first guitar whilst living in Epsom.
  • There are more than 100 restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes in the town, offering a wide variety of cuisines including Chinese, French, Indian, Mexican, Spanish, Thai, Italian, Mediterranean, Japanese and Portuguese.
  • The suffragette Emily Wilding Davison famously stepped out in front of King George V’s horse at the Epsom Derby on 4 June 1913. Today, the Epsom Downs Racecourse has a crowd capacity of 120,000.
  • Famous people who were born or lived in Epsom include actor Warwick Davis, brothers Tim Vine (comedian) and Jeremy Vine (TV and radio presenter), and actor Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films).
  • Epsom salts are named after the town as they were originally prepared by boiling down mineral waters which sprung at Epsom. Epsom salts are now used for a range of purposes, including beauty and cosmetics.
