About UCA Canterbury

Canterbury exudes student appeal with its distinctive mix of ancient charm and contemporary culture.

Our Canterbury campus is a short walk from the city centre and has a range of purpose-built studios, workshops and lecture theatres. The campus offers courses in Architecture, Fine Art, Illustration and Animation, and Graphic Design. It’s also home to a vibrant Further Education department that runs the popular Foundation Diploma, Extended Diploma and Access to Higher Education Diploma.

With on-campus accommodation, a café, a newly-refurbished bar and a range of art facilities including a specialist library, an art shop and the Herbert Read Gallery, the campus is a relaxed and creative environment to study in.

Getting around

Canterbury is pedestrian-friendly and is ideal for cycling, with plenty of pathways. The city’s two mainline stations can transport you to London via high-speed rail in as little as an hour. Seaside destinations, such as Whitstable, Herne Bay and Margate are only a short bus or train ride away. And, to hop to the continent, the Channel Tunnel connects nearby Folkestone to Calais in just 35 minutes.

Eating and drinking

Whether you want cheaper eating options or a restaurant for a special occasion, Canterbury offers plenty of choices. Quirky cafes, traditional oak-beamed pubs, on-trend restaurants and the Shake Shed (a student institution) – you’ll soon discover your favourites. Take a look at TripAdvisor for some great reviews and useful info on sample prices and opening times for some of the more popular haunts.

Dancing, DJs, comedy, cocktails, live bands and more – Canterbury has an eclectic mix of laid-back pubs, lively clubs and trendy bars offering nights out to appeal to all tastes. You’ll also be within easy reach of London, as well as the towns of Ashford, Maidstone and Rochester, if you fancy nipping further afield.

If you’re in need of some retail therapy, Canterbury’s Whitefriars shopping centre brings you the best in fashion and lifestyle brands, while the King’s Mile, Westgate and St Dunstan’s are just a stone’s throw away and offer a range of specialist and individual outlets.
