University College Birmingham Work Experience
UCB has a variety of work experience placements available for year 10, 11 and 12 students who want to get an insight into what it’s like to work in a career they’re interested in.
Work experience can be taken over a period of 1–2 weeks. At the end of their placement, students will receive a report and certificate that they can use to apply for a full-time course in that area at UCB.
UCB offers work experience in the following areas:
Surrounded by state-of-the-art facilities and cooking alongside our top chefs, students will have the opportunity to work in the kitchens and menu planning in our café and restaurants. Placements are available from October until May.
If bread-making or cake decorating are their hobbies, students can get creative through baking artisan breads or working with sugar craft – all within our brand new state-of-the-art bakeries. Placements are available from October until May.
Hair, Beauty & Make-up
By choosing to develop their hairdressing, beauty therapy or make-up skills (or all three, if they want), students can gain experience in our commercial hair and beauty salons as well as our professional make-up studios. Placements are available from October until May.
If nutrition and fitness is their passion, students can work in our gym and spa area learning to plan personal fitness programmes and what happens to the body during exercise. They can also assist with health promotions, product sales and using our specialist fitness equipment. Placements are available from October until June.
Availabilty and booking
Work experience at UCB can be arranged by the student interested, or through a representative from their school. Once a placement has been confirmed, the student will be invited to attend an interview approximately one week before they start. Whilst doing work experience, students are given complimentary lunch vouchers to use in our café.
We can only accommodate one work experience student per week in each area (with the exception of Chef Catering), so book early to avoid disappointment.
