University College Birmingham Summer Row
Our main site on Summer Row is the hub of University life and the majority of undergraduate degree courses are taught here and at the newly-opened McIntyre House.
Summer Row is conveniently located by the bustling Colmore business district, which is abuzz with top restaurants, trendy bars and cool cafés. Cambrian Hall, one of the University’s two main accommodation sites, is just 150 yards away and you can see the spectacular Library of Birmingham from the front of Summer Row.
The building, opened in 1968, is home to a specialist library (there is a second library at Richmond House) as well as facilities such as the Resource Centre, the Modern Language Centre, the Academic Skills Centre, the Knowledge Transfer and Research Centre and the Guild of Students.
Summer Row is also home to the International Office and hired@UCB, the University’s one-stop shop for advice and guidance on jobs and careers.
A complete remodelling of the fourth floor has seen the launch of the University’s prestigious new £2 million Food Science and Innovation Suite, which features the latest food testing and diagnostic technology alongside state-of-the-art kitchen facilities.
Summer Row has a rooftop café serving a daily-changing menu of hot meals, sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffee, and a large cafeteria, including a salad bar, is situated on the fifth floor. The popular Cakes & Bakes shop, selling delicious bakery products and chocolates made by our students, is on the ground floor.
UCB’s award-winning training restaurants, the Atrium and the Brasserie, which have been acclaimed by the AA, are at Summer Row. The restaurants offer fine dining and casual modern British and European cooking at lunchtime and dinner and are the backdrop for special theme dinners arranged by students.
