University of chester yoga

Welcome to the homepage for the University of Chester Yoga sports society.

Breathe, Relax and Be still, you’re a warrior, not a worrier.

We meet at least once a week to practice, stretch and de-stress. We welcome students of any level to come and join in, to experience different types of yoga and improve your individual practice. Our weekly classes are taught by a qualified teacher, and we often provide opportunities to be taught by guest teachers. We also provide all equipment so no need to worry about bringing a mat. Additionally we organize trips through out the year and meet for our weekly social. So feel free to come and exercise with us in a relaxing environment and escape from the pressures of University life.

Last year the yoga society had an incredible year! We increased our equipment of mats, straps and blocks. Over 100 members joined throughout last year, and we had a consistent number attending classes.

We hosted several charity events including clothes swap, yogathon, charity classes and a movie night with henna, which raised over £200 for Claire’s Hospice and the Open Hearts and Minds Foundation.

We introduced several guest teachers, including one on our trip to Delamere Forest. We also got the society together for a number of socials, including a Christmas meal.

This year we hope to meet the number of members of last year and most importantly improve attendance to weekly classes. We aim to increase classes to two per week, at a more convenient time for students. We will also hold more charity events and raise more money for our chosen charities, and bring the society closer together by hosting more trips and social events.

We encourage all students to come and join us at yoga, no matter what level you are at we will help you develop your skills, gain strength and improve your balance and breathing. Yoga is one of the only non-competitive sports at Chester Uni, allowing you to improve your body and mind. We also encourage members of other sports societies to join and practice yoga as it’s a perfect way to recover from strenuous training sessions. With the DOC at only £10 why not come and give it a go?
