Korfball? Probably the best sport you’ve never heard of! Korfball is a Dutch sport that combines the most exciting aspects of basketball, handball and netball into one. It is the only truly mixed sport in the world as each team consists of 4 guys and 4 girls playing on the same pitch together. The rules are straightforward, it’s a fast paced game and everyone is a beginner at the start. Trust me, it’s easy and fun to pick up.

Although korfball is a relatively small sport, there is plenty of opportunity   for match play. For the first time in the 2016/17 year we will have 3 teams   playing in the South West Korfball League with games every week. As well as this, we have 3 teams competing in BUCS, the national student competition, which means even more matches, even more competition! But there’s no pressure to be a part of a team. You’re more than welcome to just turn up to the socials and weekend training sessions if that’s more your thing!

We have a strict regime with socials occurring every other week, where we head over to 78 for Compete Sports Night on Wednesdays. On top of this, we will once again be organising a tour to Holland for one last blow out before exams start! And if clubbing isn’t your thing, then don’t worry. We head over to the pub on weekends after training sessions for a chilled out meal where we can catch up and relax.

Korfball is one of the most friendly and welcoming clubs at the University of Bristol with people of all athletic abilities participating. So find out for yourself – I promise we won’t disappoint! We will have a stand a Freshers Fair on Friday 23rd September, and at Coombe Dingle on Sunday 25th September. Come and find us, and there will be more information about our sessions in the upcoming weeks! In the meantime, please give us a like on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/bristolunikorf/) or a follow on Twitter and Instagram!
