University of Brighton Sports, Whether you want to improve your level of fitness, compete in competitive sports, have fun with your friends or gain additional coaching qualifications, we can help.

As members of the university community the Sport Brighton team provides you with masses of opportunity to participate in sport whilst at the University of Brighton. Whether it is purely for fun, to improve your fitness, make lasting friendships or to take part in serious competition we can assist.

We aim to increase sporting opportunity, improve the range of health and fitness opportunities, improve health and safety in sport, develop structured sports development opportunities and provide a great service. By working closely with the elected Student Union Vice President (Student Activities) we want to ensure a strong voice for students in the management and development of sport at Brighton. As well as services for the university community, Sport Brighton also offers a range of services and opportunities for members of the public and community groups and organisations.

Facilities at Brighton

To book a facility on a casual basis as a student, staff or member please contact your nearest reception. You can book facilities seven days in advance if your are a member or 48 hours if you are not. Please note that we offer a special off peak rate for casual hire facility bookings. Facility hire off-peak times are 07.30-17:00. If you would like to make a contract booking (regular bookings, bookings by external organisations or bookings further in the future) then complete our booking form. You can call reception to check availability prior to making your enquiry or booking request. Monday to Friday 7.30am to 10pm

Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 5pm

Bank Holidays are the same as Sunday opening hours. We close between Christmas and New Year.

About Falmer

Situated on the edge of Brighton amongst the green fields and hills of the South Downs, the Falmer campus houses a range of outdoor sports pitches and an indoor facility.

The university have invested £9m on developing sports facilities at the Falmer campus. In October 2010 the university opened its new Sports Centre. The Centre has a 6 court sports hall as well as a fitness gym and 2 activity studios.

The facilities are within a 5 minute walk of the main halls of residence and Falmer train station. With an inter site/city bus service running frequently.

The university’s sports facilities are available for hire by student, staff , external groups and the general public regardless of membership. A variety of fitness membership options for staff and students are available. All memberships are valid across all university sports facilities.

Falmer’s facilities include:

      • Sports hall marked with 1 netball court, 2 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts (and whole hall show court), 6 badminton courts, cricket nets
      • 2 activity studios (1 matted for martial arts)
      • Large fitness suite
      • Seminar room
      • Five outdoor grass football pitches
      • One outdoor grass rugby pitch
      • Floodlit synthetic turf full size pitch (Third Generation FIFA 2 Star) marked for football, 3 x 7-a-side pitches and american football.
      • Floodlit 8 court tarmacadam non-slip netball and tennis courts
      • Artificial outdoor cricket wicket
      • Outdoor changing (x8) and seminar rooms (x4) within the Sports Pavilion Building

Brighton Health and Racquets Club

Brighton Health and Racquets Club is situated on the Falmer campus. It houses three pools, 10 indoor tennis courts, a large fitness suite, squash courts, an activity studio, a hair and beauty clinic, a physiotherapy clinic, a restaurant and a sports equipment shop. This is one of the south-east’s premier leisure facilities and is part of the Virgin Active group.

      • Access to facilities

The club offers discounted full membership rates for university students and staff. The club have the right to change the entry fee at their discretion.

      • Students

The university Sport and Recreation Service issue cards at the start of each academic year. The cards allow access during restricted times and offer a cheap membership payment followed by a pay as you go fee each time you visit the club for swimming sessions.Virgin Active have the right to change this entry fee.

      • Staff

The university Sport and Recreation Service issue 100 staff cards. The cards allow access during restricted times and offer a cheap membership payment followed by a pay as you go fee each time you visit the club for swimming sessions. Virgin Active have the right to change this entry fee.
