University of Brighton Fine Art

University of Brighton Fine Art, Fine Art is a thriving subject area at the University of Brighton with courses at undergraduate, MA and doctoral level and a portfolio of acclaimed research. The creative, innovative and exploratory environment is fostered by dedicated academic and support staff.

Our undergraduate programme reflects contemporary notions of practice, dividing into specialisms for students to focus their work: Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Critical Fine Art Practice. This allows a depth and concentration not possible on many generic fine art courses. Recognising the constant change and redefinition of ‘fine art’ we encourage overlapping practices and disciplines, while context is provided by course teaching in art history and critical studies by established writers and researchers. Our aim is to help students working in all practices to become critical thinkers and highly proficient artists.

Post-graduate opportunities include the MA Fine Art, which allows different approaches to be tested and brought together under a common programme of study, also Inclusive Arts Practice and further postgraduate courses in related disciplines.

Research extends across many fields of fine art theory and practice and, as well as informing teaching, our staff research and innovative arts practice extends into community engagement projects.
