This page is intended to serve as collection of resources for the Mentors and Placement areas that are supporting students currently on our Pre-Registration Nursing programmes. The links below will provide you with a selection of key documents relating to the BSc Nursing programme overall but more specifically to the provision of practice placement support. The programme handbook gives and over view of the BSc programme and its requirements whilst the Mentor Handbook and Practice Placement Handbook are valuable resources for mentors and educational leads within practice. There is also a copy the Practice Assessment Document (PAD) for each year of the programme. Students should have these with them at all times and Mentors are encouraged to review the student development prior to their current placement in order to tailor their current placement to their needs.

The University of Bolton is also fully subscribed to the NHS placement charter and a copy of this is provided below for reference. We also have a common reporting process for all issues or concerns relating to the progress of our students within the practice placement area. This process should be followed in instances where students or staff members may have concerns regarding the progress, conduct or facilitation of students in the placement area. This is summarised on the flow chart below. In situations where there may be concerns of a professional nature, you may be referred to the Universities process for raising causes of concern which can be accessed on the link below.
BSc (Hons)/PgDip Community Specialist Practice (District Nursing)
On these courses the University works with a number of organisations including:
- Bolton NHS Foundation Trust
- Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust (Ashton, Leigh & Wigan locality)
- Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust (This includes the divisions of; Bury Community Services, Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale Community Healthcare and Oldham Community Health Services)
- Pennine Acute Hospital NHS Trust (Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)
You need to a current first level registration with the NMC and have a minimum of 12 months post registration experience.
