University of Bolton Nebosh, The NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Safety & Health is aimed at those that need to have a firm understanding of everyday health, safety and welfare in the construction workplace. The course consist of 3 course units and will see students adding a national certificate to their CVs.
University of Bolton student, Andrea Bishop, has been recognised as the best student in the country by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBSOH)
Andrea, 45, from Worsley, won the Best Candidate Award at this year’s NEBOSH graduation. She has been awarded the prize for getting the highest marks in the country for her NEBOSH National Diploma. Andrea is also the first student from the Northwest to win the national prize.
Being named the best student in the country was no fluke for Andrea. It came with a lot of hard work, dedication and help from her tutors: ‘Attending lectures two evenings a week to study the Diploma was hard, especially after work but the tutors, particularly Dave Walker and Neil Davies made them informal but informative and interesting.’
What makes Andrea’s achievement even more impressive is she fit her part-time study around a challenging, full-time role in a large public sector department which employs around 64,000 people.
She added: ‘I certainly didn’t aim for Best Candidate when I started the course but I did invest a lot of time in studying. This included making revision notes on all aspects of the syllabus, reading these notes travelling to and from work, researching legislation and various elements I was unfamiliar with on the internet and practising past questions, most evenings and weekends leading up to the examinations.’
At the graduation and awards ceremony Andrea was given first-class treatment: ‘We went to the Graduation Ceremony and were treated as VIP guests. I was presented with an engraved silver salver which is a lovely reminder of the day and acknowledgement of my efforts.’
