The University HR team operates at the heart of the University and operates a HR Business Partner model of service delivery to its stakeholders. HR works closely with all key customers on the people agenda that supports the aims of the University but also the specific needs of academic Schools / support Services within it. The HR team strives to be recognised as providing operational and customer service excellence – a high quality and transformed HR department working adding value to organisational performance across the University.

It is an exciting time at the University as we progress the interconnected wilful institution building and TIRI (Teaching Intensive, Research Informed) agendas. These strategic imperatives can only be achieved through the University’s excellent employees and the HR team plays a key enabling role in this regard.

HR Mission Statement
Our mission is simple. HR is committed to supporting the University’s TIRI agenda and aims to contribute by developing and implementing policies, processes and initiatives that are not only important to achieving the University Strategic Plan, but also optimise the ability to recruit, develop, retain and reward a body of employees commensurate with a successful University.

HR Strategy
This HR Strategy sets out the strategic priorities of the HR team (therefore guiding principles for the team) for the period 2015 – 2020 as determined by the University Executive board and is aligned to the University Strategic Plan and associated agendas. This can be accessed below

HR Director

Chris leads the HR team. As HR Director he is accountable for the development and delivery of the HR Strategy and the operational HR service provided to managers and employees of the University. As a member of the University’s Executive Board he provides support and guidance (acting as senior HR Business Partner) to his colleagues. He is also one of the Directors of UTC Bolton.

Each HR Business Partner works closely with and proactively supports a number of Heads of School / Services on strategic HR-related matters and organisational objectives such as:

HR Officer
Sharon manages the HR Administrator team within HR, acts as HR Business Partner to Facilities, oversees employee benefits, coordinates staffing committee issues and supports the HR Director on employee relations matters and other HR projects.

Interim HR IS Officer
Sara provides high quality management information, prepares and presents staff information / metrics for managers, committees and a number of external organisations. She also supports other generalist activities of the service.

Pensions Officer
Martin is responsible for the day-to-day management of the TPS, GMPF and USS pension schemes and deals with queries relating to pensions tax allowances, retirement and other pension matters.

HR Administrators have responsibility for all aspects of operational HR activity and support the HR Business Partners to provide excellent customer service to employees in our Schools / Services. They act as the first port of call on issues such as
