University of Birmingham S
Welcome to our School
It is a great privilege to have been appointed as the first Principal of the University of Birmingham School and I hope that you are as excited as I am about our future as you find out more about our School.
I was the first in our family to go University and, inspired by my own wonderful teachers, I have enjoyed a long career in some of the country’s best schools. I always said it would have to be something really special to make me move – and this school is just that.
We are delighted to have welcomed our first two cohorts of Year 7 pupils, Sixth Form students and teachers because, as the first secondary University Training School, we are creating history.
At the University of Birmingham School we aim to raise our students’ aspirations and to maximise their potential by accessing the widest possible range of educational opportunities. We do this by offering, in an extended school day, a broad and balanced academic curriculum, by supporting the development of well-rounded people of strong character in a diverse and truly comprehensive student body, who have access to world-class facilities, resources and expertise through close links with the University community.
We look forward to welcoming you in 2017 and beyond.
Principal, University of Birmingham School
Birmingham has been challenging and developing great minds for more than a century. Characterised by a tradition of innovation, research at the University has broken new ground, pushed forward the boundaries of knowledge and made an impact on people’s lives.
We continue this tradition today and have ambitions for a future that will embed our work and recognition of the Birmingham name on the international stage.
Universities are never complete. They develop as new challenges and opportunities occur. At Birmingham we innovate, we push the frontiers of understanding; we ask new research questions, we turn theory through experiment into practice – because that’s what great universities do.
