What is Office 365?
Microsoft Office 365 is a cloud-based collaboration service that brings together the following features:
- The latest Office desktop applications for up to 5 devices. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Lync. In addition to PC and Mac this is also available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone which enables Office content viewing and editing on the go.
- UG and PGT students also gain access to Exchange Online, meaning your University email account is moved into the cloud. This gives you an enhanced mail storage of upto 50GB and allows you to access your email, contacts and calendar from any internet connected PC, Mac or Mobile Device.
- Lync instant messaging is also available to UG and PGT students. This provides you with instant messaging, video and voice calls.
With this powerful suite of solutions, you can work faster from virtually anywhere, on any device.
As part of the Office 365 rollout all student email addresses will change to firstname.lastname@example.org, even if your email is not on Exchange Online.
Some services such as Munrow Sports online booking system now use email@example.com to log in. See KB12398 for guidance.
What do you get?
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students will have access to all of the above features of Office 365.
Postgraduate Research students will not have access to Exchange Online and Lync as their mailbox will remain on premise, but will still have access to download the latest copy of Microsoft Office.
How do you get access to Office 365?
All students will be able to access their Office 365 account by logging in to https://login.microsoftonline.com using your full firstname.lastname@example.org address and password to log in.
