Our research

Our mission is to deliver research across the spectrum from discovery to translation, with clinical need driving basic research and fundamental mechanistic discovery facilitating substantial clinical progress, supported by methodological expertise in biostatistics, health economics, clinical trials, evidence synthesis, medical ethics and qualitative research.

College of Medical and Dental Sciences Research Institutes and Centres of Excellence

These areas of research are coordinated by the College of Medical and Dental Sciences, one of the University’s five Colleges, which comprises eight Institutes. These Institutes facilitate a flexible, cross-disciplinary and collaborative research centre structure that integrates clinical and non-clinical researchers and allows effective collaboration.

Research centres are interdisciplinary, collaborative groupings that represent key strategic areas of strength in Birmingham, facilitating internal and external investment in expertise aimed at bringing the best minds together across traditional academic boundaries to tackle issues of genuine clinical need.
