Digital Library Redirection

The VIA service is provided to give shortened URLs to Digital Library resources based on the minimum amount of information needed to uniquely identify that resource. A catalogue item’s BIB_ID can be used to create a link to that item’s record or Bookfinder floorplan while an article’s bibliographic details can be used to link directly to the article in FindIt@Bham.

This shortened version of a link to a library resource can be used in cases where a persistant URL is required – irrespective of the LMS system used to host that resource. For example, QR codes created with a VIA link will remain active even after a change in Library Catalogue supplier.

All links that go through VIA are recorded using Google Analytics. Please contact the Digital Library Team for access to this data.
