About the School of Biosciences

One of the top biology schools in the UK, we deliver internationally excellent teaching and research across the broad span of modern biology. With around 60 members of academic staff, we host a broadly-based international community of 900 undergraduates, 250 postgraduates and 300 part time students.

The School of Biosciences has an excellent research profile with 90% assessed as international quality, supporting an exciting range of teaching programmes.

Research in the School includes human, animal, plant, microbial, cell and molecular biology.

The School has major high-technology facilities for research in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, structural biology and optical imaging.

From molecules and cells to organisms and their environment, Biosciences is an exciting area to study and is contributing to major advances related to human and environmental health, medicine and food security. We are ranked third in the UK for Biosciences.

Biosciences Undergraduate courses

We offer three core Biosciences degrees – with the option to specialise in a wide range of areas such as Genetics, Medical Biochemistry or Zoology. We also offer several Undergraduate Masters MSci degrees.
