University Of Bedfordshire Widening Participation

Widening participation in HE for all

The University of Bedfordshire works with schools and colleges across the region, and further afield, to ensure that there are opportunities for everyone to access higher education and reach their potential.

University of Bedfordshire Outreach Programme

Through our Outreach Programme we provide lots of outreach support and activities for teachers and trainers, parents and carers, and community groups to raise awareness, aspirations and achievement so that groups that are otherwise under-represented can successfully progress to Higher Education.

University of Bedfordshire Outreach Team

Our Outreach Team connects especially with people and communities who are under-represented in higher education.

  • care leavers
  • disabled learners
  • first person in their family to attend university (first generation scholars)
  • low socio-economic or disadvantaged background
  • mature or returning learners
  • minority ethnic learners
  • young carers

Our support for learners Includes:

  • advice services
  • bespoke schemes
  • campus visits
  • mentoring
  • networking events
  • online resources
  • open days and higher education fairs
  • parent workshops
  • parentsā€™ evenings
  • presentations
  • student shadowing
  • summer schools
  • taster classes
  • teacher training days

Through this work we hope more people will engage in Higher Education. Current students get involved in many of the activities, through our AssociateĀ Scheme, so learners get a true, and encouraging, picture of what university life is really like.

We want to encourage those who do not think that higher education is for them to aspire to university.

If you think Higher Education is for you have a look at our courses and find out how to apply

Every year we submit our Outreach Agreement to the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) which spells out our commitments and investment in access and outreach activities.

We take these responsibilities very seriously and this is reflected in our excellent achievements in recruiting students from all backgrounds to our courses.
